Pixilation, an animation technique that uses live actors as stop-motion "puppets," is an adorable art form — check out Mike Jittlov's dazzling short The Wizard of Speed and Time or Talking Heads' "Road to Nowhere" video for evidence. Two-dimensional cut-out animation — used in Terry Gilliam's Monty Python work — is likewise cute as hell. A combination of the two techniques, then, is just about the most precious thing ever, as proven by local animator Jodie Mack's charming Yard Work Is Hard Work. Tonight, Mack's 16mm experimental animation/romcom/musical makes its world premiere alongside performances by lovely folkies Judson Claiborne and winsome "off-pop" purveyors the Justin Petertil Orchestra. Also on the bill is a DJ set by Roommate's Kent Lambert.
