More Flavor: Discussion Drop It Like It's Hot: A Discussion on Pop Culture and Sexual Abuse

Despite the myriad achievements of the women's movement over the last 40 years, misogyny and sexual violence remain all-too-potent forces in popular culture. From Dolce & Gabbana's high-fashion ode to gang rape to Grand Theft Auto's computer-generated prostitute-murdering to the mainstreaming of "torture porn" horror flicks, every segment of our culture seems rife with this toxicity. Many argue that these images normalize (and fetishize) violence against women, thus paving the way for actual violence against women. Today, as part of Ink Blot Project's ongoing series that raises awareness about sexual assault, women's health expert Robin Bradley lectures on the effects that pop culture and sexual violence have on each other.
