Designed by ex-pat artist Diana Arce, Politaoke is a nonpartisan party that mixes the best (and worst) of politics and karaoke. Featuring an impressive menu of speeches from current and recent political candidates — including third-party campaigners like Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney — the event works just like regular karaoke. Only instead of trying to master the lyrical gymnastics of "Baby Got Back" or reinterpret "Don't Stop Believing," participants recite the rhetorical flourishes (and flubs) of political addresses in any manner they see fit. Tonight's one-night-only spectacle promises renditions of everything from Obama's eloquent orations to George W. Bush's gaffe-a-minute keynotes to McCain's teleprompter battles.
