Following the untimely death of drummer John Pike last summer, fans of Syracuse's Ra Ra Riot feared that the band might not survive the tragedy. But the quintet carried on, propelled by the buzz it generated at 2007's SXSW and as opener for Tokyo Police Club and Editors. Without naming a replacement drummer, Ra Ra Riot released their full-length debut, The Rhumb Line, earlier this month. Packed with grand violin swells and crystal-clear melodies, the record recalls Arcade Fire's lush orchestral beauty and Vampire Weekend's quirky hooks. Walter Meego, also celebrating the release of their first LP, open the show with ample doses of their sugary, goofy synth-pop.
