Like David Byrne's Playing the Building translated into dance, Convergence finds choreographer Carrie Hanson excavating conceptual bedrock in a 15,000-square-foot garage. Inside what Hanson calls an "industrial cathedral," architect Joel Huffman and media designer Peter Gogarty (one of the creators of Lumen) have installed four environments that isolate and amplify ideas of space and human interaction. Meanwhile, graffiti found on a shipping container provides raw text for a scene that takes place inside of it. Numerous episodes loop throughout the evening, and audience members are encouraged to grab a drink and wander as long as they like.
