Note:
Co-director Aaron Rose hosts an audience discussion at Friday's 8pm screening and Saturday's 8:15pm screening.
The artists featured in the documentary Beautiful Losers were hardly the first to root their work in street art, but they did so with a colorful, punkish verve that's stood the test of time. Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat were obvious influences on the movement, which produced its own universe of stars: Harmony Korine, Mike Mills, Barry McGee, and others. Directed by curator and ANP Quarterly editor Aaron Rose along with Joshua Leonard, the film delves into the loose-knit group that brought DIY, skateboarding, hip-hop, and graffiti to bear on the gallery world.
