Note: After the opening, the gallery is open by appointment only.
The Suburban pairs two like-minded artists of different generations in this exhibition, which is rich with conceptual layers and enthralling in its attention to form. James Welling's photographs depict Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's all-glass Farnsworth House, but the artist disrupts our perception of the architectural icon by using lens flares and colored gels. Meanwhile, Walead Beshty presents geometric sculptures made of glass — designed to fit snugly inside FedEx containers — which accrue web-like cracks as they're shipped nationwide for exhibitions. The echoes between these transparent boxes invite us to consider their vulnerability, as well as the ways art circulates — physically or in photographs — building meaning and value.
