This loving elegy to one of the titans of queer cinema comes sandwiched between the June release of the Glitterbox set and KINO's November-slated Derek Jarman Collection. Jarman is best known for his groundbreaking Sebastiane (1976) and its follow-up Jubilee (1977) — still arguably the best punk film, teeming with history, sexuality, and Jarman's indomitable joie de vivre. Here, Isaac Julien (Young Soul Rebels) and frequent Jarman muse Tilda Swinton present the man behind the extravagant sets and striking homoerotic images. The three Jarman-Swinton collabs — Caravaggio, Wittgenstein, and Blue — running concurrently with Derek will feel all the more relevant.
