Artist Stan Shellabarger repeats mundane actions over and over again, turning them into extreme undertakings. For his second show at Western Exhibitions the artist displays several new Walking Books, which he makes by pacing relentlessly across long sheets of paper with graphite-soled shoes. While recalling Chris Burden's endurance tests and Richard Long's walkabouts, Shellabarger's performances investigate the relationship of our bodies to the world around us. Meanwhile, he demonstrates how the residual marks of our actions can accumulate into remarkable visual displays. The artist will be marching out a new book each Saturday for the duration of the exhibition.
