Hyde Park Art Center says…

Once a heavy-industry mecca, now a service-industry hub, Chicago has a changing industrial history that's ripe for artistic examination. Painter Andy Paczos answers the call with a meditative look at abandoned industrial sites. Paczos spent the last three years closely studying the former site of the Chicago Paperboard Company, a factory that closed in 2001 and was demolished in 2005, painting his photo-realistic works en plein air (on site) to capture the unexpected forms of life that can emerge in such abandoned industrial areas. Abandoned Demolition, curated by Chuck Thurow and Pat Swanson, presents 14 oil paintings by Paczos of the paperboard site.
