Big Black may be the most lauded Chicago act to have emerged from the '80s American underground, but Naked Raygun is probably still the most beloved. On post-hardcore anthems like "Rat Patrol" and "Soldier's Requiem," Jeff Pezzatti and company take the ratchet up the buzz saw melodicism of Hüsker Dü with fist-pumping choruses and wonderfully excessive whoa-oh-ohs. If last year's retrospective doc What Poor Gods We Do Make was a bit self-congratulatory, the explosive modern-day live performances the film captured went a long way in justifying that tone.
