If artists like Akron/Family, Sufjan Stevens, and Iron and Wine inspired you to pick up that banjo gathering dust in your closet, fret not. The Old Town School of Folk Music's eight-week Bluegrass Banjo I course promises to teach newbies to the multi-stringed acoustic instrument all the basics of bluegrass — the syncopated, three-finger technique first popularized by Earl Scruggs. Students learn all the bluegrass ABCs: including proper finger placement, simple chords, tuning of the instrument, right hand rolls, and easy-to-master songs. Don't have a banjo yet? Score one on eBay or at the Different Strummer music store.
