The intellectual exercises that birthed Merce Cunningham's dances might make one expect dry, mathematical choreographies, but structured though they are, his dances are full of human glimpses at the nuance of everyday interaction. His recent death will no doubt cast a pall over the montage of new and old works, but the treasure of his artistry remains as alive as the world-class dancers performing it. Richard Woodbury, composer, and artist Anna Kunz — both Columbia College faculty — bring a local angle to two distinct Events, mixtapes of excerpts that apply Cunningham's ideas of chance decisions in choreography to programming itself. When not by Kunz, décor will be from designs by Robert Rauschenberg, who collaborated with Cunningham until his death in 2008.
