Perhaps a sign of these recessionary times, Chicago's version of Fashion Week has been chopped in half for its fifth year and is branching out beyond downtown's pricey retailers. Despite being pared down to a four-day event, there's still quite a selection of free industry seminars, shopping excursions, and trunk shows from which to choose. If you're unwilling to part with your funds for the sake of style, feed your fashion fix by catching shows dedicated to eco-friendly couture, student-produced creations, or the freshest faces in garment-making. Also, Independent Retail Week coincides with this year's Fashion Focus, bringing design out of the city's tourist-filled boutiques to local shops in Bucktown and West Town.
