Steve Martin: An Evening of Bluegrass and Banjo

Most people would be content with any of Steve Martin's several transcendent careers. After his absurdist brand of standup comedy enjoyed a meteoric rise from small clubs in the '70s to packed football stadiums, he quit cold turkey to pursue successful turns as an actor, playwright, and New Yorker whimsicalist. But 45 years after his salad days performing at Knott's Berry Farm, his first love is still — wait for it — the banjo. An enthusiastic amateur, he's on the short list of the best players around, and while the entire list isn't that long, Martin is nonetheless a serious picker who's earned the respect and collaboration of the world's leading bluegrass musicians. What's next, the NFL?

They killed it at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco. Highly recommended.
