Roky Erickson is still standing. Former frontman of the 13th Floor Elevators, the Austin-based group who coined the term "psychedelic rock" and took San Francisco by storm in 1966 with their unhinged hit "You're Gonna Miss Me," Erickson has battled with schizophrenia since the early '70s. In spite of his often-paralyzing mental disorder, Erickson's prolific career has spanned multiple decades and influenced a range of artists, including Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, R.E.M., and ZZ Top. After many years of silence, Roky gloriously returned to the stage in 2005 under the careful watch of his brother and legal custodian, Sumner Erickson.
