There's a reason why Black Heart Procession never make summer-jam playlists. When San Diego's Three Mile Pilot broke up, Zach Smith took their melodic pop to Pinback, while Pall Jenkins and Tobias Nathaniel explored dreary melancholy fit for a funeral. Their carnival instrumentation, haunting vocals, and spooky saws embrace fall's crisp nights — sipping hot toddies on a dilapidated porch, rather than cruising down Clark Street with the top down. With the band touring on their first album in three years (coinciding with TMP's reunion), there isn't a better way to soothe those post-Halloween blues.
