Phil Elverum (formerly "Elvrum") is the gentle giant of the Pacific Northwest's DIY music scene. His deepest impact came from the Microphones' 2001 record The Glow, Pt. 2, and though he now records as Mount Eerie, Elverum remains a fount of inspired material, regularly self-releasing CDs, elaborate vinyl packages, and art books. Elverum's songbook veers between metallic dirges and acoustic lullabies, but the singer/songwriter's core intensity turns his stylistic swerves into minor variations on a theme.
