Max Palevsky Cinema says…

Michael Mann demonstrates in his 1999 drama, The Insider, that the tangled fibers of lies, ethics, corruption, and integrity are not so dissimilar among big organizations — be they tobacco machines or journalistic empires. Russell Crowe, in his breakout role, plays Jeffrey Wigand, the real-life ex-executive who blows the whistle on Big Tobacco after meeting 60 Minutes producer Lowell Bergman (Al Pacino). Suspenseful and unnerving, the film was controversial for its harsh depictions of key characters (including anchor Mike Wallace) and events, as well as its unforgiving take on the politics behind news, business, and public trust.
