Rotofugi says…

Every now and then you just gotta let go. This month we did just that and turned the Rotofugi Gallery reigns over to the good folks at Black Market Caviar, a new screenprinting and clothing boutique that just happens to be moving in a few doors down from us on Chicago Avenue (1945 W).

Marco Hafid and the crew at BMC did a great job curating a diverse and thought provoking show for us. Hafid’s own graphic (and somewhat disturbing) screenprints set the tone for a show of contrasts...beauty vs. destruction, commercialism vs. art....and more.

The abstract wildness of San Francisco-based John Felix Arnold III’s drawings and prints shake with energy.  The insanely detailed, yet strikingly graphic drawings (drawn entirely with tiny micron pens…look at that texture) by another Bay Area artist, D Young V, then draw you close.

Large wood cutouts by Chicago artist Elisa Harkins (aka Pooper) bring a touch of nature, whimsy and mysticism to the exhibit.  And the street-smart and clever designs of another Chicago artist, Brandon Breaux, hint at a world overrun with advertising and look like throwaway transit posters from a different, stranger and cooler, era.

Finally, in a nod to the digital age, monoprints by New York based Chris Huber bring us full circle, exploding with color and sending us back out to the street with open eyes.

We’re proud to be showing these exciting works and hope you enjoy the exhibit....and of course, credit to BMC for a job well done!

Our gallery is open every Saturday from noon until 4pm, and can be opened upon request at almost any time by asking at our toy store next door! Thanks!
