The Second City has recently mined the public lives of Rod Blagojevich, Rich Daley, and Rahm Emanuel for creative and box-office gold, but there's nothing wrong with a comedy show that's simply funny. While the comedy institution's 97th mainstage revue, Taming of the Flu, does touch on H1N1, gay marriage, and senatorial infidelity, its primary aim is to make you laugh — and it mostly does. Hometown boy Brad Morris shines as a blue-collar bike cop and a crackberry-addicted husband who can't put down his iPhone. Flu also celebrates the theater's 50th anniversary by tracking our cultural evolution since 1959, most memorably with a sparkling gem set in a postwar bomb shelter. Here's to another fifty years.
