The MCA's monthly "complaint-friendly knitting circle" invites chicks (and dudes) with sticks — all skill levels welcome — to gather at Puck's Café for ribbing, purling, and kvetching amongst like-minded fiber fans. Tonight's installment features a show-and-tell with guest artist Rebecca Ringquist, whose work combines traditional needlecrafts like hand embroidery with modern machine stitching to create complex narrative vignettes on contemporary "samplers." Ringquist's embroideries in the recent group show Soft Life at the Hyde Park Art Center, stitched on found fabrics such as bed sheets and pillowcases, utilized cutesy, clichéd vintage embroidery patterns for a cheeky post-feminst take on "women's work."
