Hometown heroes Tortoise dabble in an idiosyncratic mix of musical genres, taking an ambitious (if minimalist) approach to cool jazz and ambient electronics. Avant-garde masterminds à la Brian Eno, founding members Doug McCombs and John Herndon began toying with new methods of sound production in 1990, and have since become pioneers in everything from ambient jazz to post-rock and prog. Tonight the boys return to their native land for a show encompassing smooth ambient rhythms spread over easygoing electronica.
