Artist Justin Cooper is both a madcap performer and a maker of objects, frequently interweaving the two endeavors. We may not see his showmanship on this occasion, but four large sculptures seem to perform for us in his absence with acrobatic verve. A wheelbarrow balances upright on a conch shell, metal folding chairs (with garden-hose prosthetic legs) collide in the air overhead, and an unusually tall paper palm tree slumps onto the ground as if exhausted by all the effort. In the back gallery, a frenetic video, Studio Visit (2007), shot from the point-of-view of a critter-like intruder, presents the creative process as an unruly show in itself, accompanied by a suite of related drawings.
