Glass Curtain Gallery at Columbia College Chicago says…

Hunting is one of our country's semi-submerged traditions, stretching well beyond the red states. Gathering a varied group of insiders, outside observers, and pop-art interpreters, Loaded: Hunting Culture in America looks at how hunting and its signposts have surfaced in recent art and design. Erika Larsen's photographs provide keen but sympathetic views of young hunters in the field. Other artists siphon hunting-related subjects from mass-media sources, as in Mathieu Lévesque's South Park-quoting painting or David Buckingham's sculptural recreation of Dick Cheney's now-infamous quail-hunting gun. A gently critical edge emerges in additions like Josh Winegar's photo-based works; excising hunters from pictures with their kills, he adds ghostly bandages to the animals' bodies, with surprising pathos.
