Let's put Norm Macdonald next to Mad Max and cockroaches as sure-bet apocalypse survivors. Among the wreckage of sitcom cancellations, a notorious SNL firing, and time served in "movie jail," Macdonald and his droll deadpanning heroically march on. He's a comedian's comedian, beloved by colleagues for his unflappable BS detector as much as his caustic, droney delivery. When fellow comics giddily swap Norm stories, you feel like you're in the showbiz deli at the beginning of Broadway Danny Rose. Macdonald doesn't seem ambitious enough to ever attempt a Live on the Sunset Strip or Bring the Pain, but that just makes his frontline reports from the C-list all the more scathing.
