While he may be better known for his work with the defunct Zumpano or Canadian supergroup the New Pornographers, Carl Newman's power pop is at its best with his AC Newman project. On Get Guilty, his second solo album, Newman continues pumping out songs that show off both elaborate instrumentals and catchy hooks. "There Are Maybe Ten or Twelve" boasts a riff bound to make listeners think of a graduation ceremony, while Newman once again proves his underrated talent for slow burners with "The Heartbreak Rides for Free." Tonight, he takes the stage with LA's the Broken West.
