This five-day celebration of movies about music — including concert films, documentaries, music videos, and shorts — is the brainchild of BulletProof Film producer Ilko Davidov and Josh Chicoine of local band the M's. The inaugural fest kicks off with local animator Jodie Mack's Yard Work Is Hard Work and Jason Buim's Todd P Goes to Austin (following NYC promoter Todd Patrick as he showcases bands like the Death Set and High Places) at a pre-opening-night party at St. Paul's Cultural Center. CIMMF's screenings, discussions, and performances continue through Monday, including the premiere of the new Wilco tour doc Ashes of American Flags, a retrospective of work by music-video artists Encyclopedia Pictura, and Sleeping Nights Awake, a Sonic Youth concert film created by high-school students.
