Portland, Oregon basement-dwellers Hutch and Kathy have a chip on their shoulders. As the Thermals, they assail the usual lefty targets. Their politically infused, punk-flavored indie rock doesn't exactly thrash, but it's sure to offend precious indie snobs and suburban moms alike. Their third record, The Body, the Blood, the Machine, is a brilliant, balls-to-the-wall thrill ride with only a few breaks to catch your breath.
