Harry Truman famously declared, "I don't give 'em hell, I just tell the truth and they think it's hell." His spiritual heir turns out to be Janeane Garofalo. From her early stand-up days as a Providence College undergraduate, she's eschewed performing jokes in favor of sharing her opinions and frustrations with the intention of eliciting laughter. Hollywood took notice and cast young Garofalo in two influential eponymous sitcoms, The Ben Stiller Show and The Larry Sanders Show, leading to her varied career in film, television, political activism, and talk radio. Tonight she appears with Marc Maron, a fellow traveler from the so-called alternative comedy boom of the early 1990s.
