A Q&A with actor Gary Lockwood follows the screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey on Sunday, May 10. Advance tickets are available.
Ever the inventive perfectionist, filmmaker Stanley Kubrick chose a different genre for each of his productions, as if he wanted to create a new world every time. The Music Box's five-night tribute to the legendary director features just six of his films — the standard favorites — but that's enough to show off his range along with his vision. You can also sense his rare talent for spinning literary material into cinematic gold; before Kubrick, it might have been far-fetched to imagine that stories by Stephen King, Arthur C. Clarke, and Anthony Burgess could be revelatory stuff on-screen, primed for the cultural canon. If only his adaptation of Nabakov's Lolita was on the schedule too.
