Launched in storefronts and spare bedrooms, artist-run exhibition spaces have played a dynamic role in Chicago's creative life for years. Hyde Park Art Center's exuberant group show celebrating this DIY scene, Artists Run Chicago, alludes to that legacy, but emphasizes its continuing vitality over the particulars of its history. Currently active spaces and defunct venues that made waves in the past temporarily set up shop in one large gallery, their varied contributions making for a jam-packed, multi-faceted exhibition that mirrors the collective energy out there. Think of this as a grand introduction — an invitation to enter the fray. After getting a centralized taste of the action, stay tuned in months to come and make the rounds to these spaces citywide.
