Mess Hall says…

Derek Monroe doesn't get mad over shoddy products and rude customer service; he gets even. Well, sometimes. The Lake County consultant has made it his personal mission to improve business practices of companies large and small — one lawsuit at a time. In recent years, Monroe has sued dozens of businesses for the routine, sometimes trivial injustices consumers are accustomed to in our post-Wal Mart world. He doesn't always win, but he hopes his Sisyphean struggle against everyday corporate wrongdoing will help "shame" businesses into treating their customers better. Tonight, the small-claims firebrand hosts an economic and financial literacy course — dubbed "consumer self-defense" — on ways to fight back against dishonorable, unethical business practices and win. Sometimes.
