One of the more intriguing films spawned by the post-Exorcist terror-in-the-home boom, and perhaps the deepest buried of all Facets' Night School treasures, The Entity (1982) stars Barbara Hershey as a young mother who is repeatedly sexually assaulted by an invisible demon. For the most part, journeyman director Sidney J. Furie (The Ipcress File, Lady Sings the Blues) steers the, shall we say, problematic material away from tawdry exploitation. Film scholars have even celebrated the script for its anti-blame-the-victim subtext. The special effects department hasn't been so lucky. But who wants production values from a cult movie, anyway?
