Stranger Than Paradise meets Hope and Crosby in this award-winning charmer from Belgium. Writer-director Bouli Lanners plays Elie, an irascible car dealer who strikes an iffy friendship with the strung-out burglar found lurking beneath his bed. With the deadpan duo setting out for Elie's family, Eldorado lovingly parodies American road movies, buddy comedies, and odd couple screwball (with a dollop of Spaghetti Western flavor). Their eccentric encounters include a nudist who swears he's Alain Delon and a Ballardian car-crash obsessive (Gaspar Noé regular Philippe Nahon) — wry sideshows that make the emotional third act all the more disarming.
