Since releasing their first EP last year, which sent ripples through the web, Passion Pit have grown grandly into their fervid-sounding name. The band's full-length debut, Manners, is a play to our endorphins, an open-armed run at electro-pop euphoria, a polished commotion of keyboard-fueled songs that are finely calibrated yet indulgently fun. As songwriter/vocalist Michael Angelakos spills his heart in a squeezed-out falsetto, the melodies soar and the arrangements expand with synths and samples and strings, often just a step shy of excess. Beneath it all, steady drums are the bedrock, a pulse like your own rising heartbeat. There's something irresistible about the Pit's ecstatic efforts to sweep us up and get us going, perhaps against our better judgment.
