This venerable film series, curated by Chicago Filmmakers, is perhaps the ultimate antidote to the summer blockbuster season and the mindless popcorn-munching it encourages. Onion City attracts some of the most innovative directors from across the country and around the world, and features non-narrative, impressionistic, and conceptual works from luminaries like Jon Jost, Ben Russell, and Shana Moulton. Tonight's program at the Siskel kicks off three weeks of Onion City events that include screenings at Chicago Filmmakers' home base and Wicker Park's Nightingale theater.
