Shining, euphoric, and playful, the Juan MacLean's 2005 debut album, Less than Human, was one part Buddha-like spiritual bliss and one part Euro-inspired disco — with a bit of good old Chicago house thrown in for good measure. Dance-punk flourishes revealed the album's DFA origins, but MacLean kept the mood startlingly positive, with enough unresolved tension in the icy, Kraftwerk-esque synths to keep listeners on their toes. After a long silence, the Juan MacLean dropped the "Happy House" 12-inch last year to rapturous dance-floor hosannas: as its name implies, the track is a classic throwback to vocal-house music's salad days. Tonight, the outfit performs tracks off the newly-released The Future Will Come LP.
