The Present's Rusty Santos has helped mastermind some of the most chaotically beautiful music of the last five years, from Animal Collective's Sung Tongs and Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti to Panda Bear's Person Pitch. And sure enough, the acclaimed producer's debut record as the Present — 2008's double-LP World I See — was a demented pop-noise hybrid of uncommon beauty. The Present's studio jam sessions explore the blissed-out intersections of noise, drone, ambient pop, and experimental psychedelia and shoegaze to delightful ends. Tonight, Santos' cacophonous NY-based outfit performs tracks off its new effort, The Way We Are.
