At our nearest chain bookstore, there's eight bookcases for American history — and two are dedicated entirely to Abraham Lincoln. That's a lot of stories for a president who brought America out of the Civil War, ended slavery, and was the first US president to be assassinated. At July's installment of RUI, the performers are Patrick Somerville (The Cradle) and Jonathan Messinger (Hiding Out, Featherproof Books founder, and Time Out Chicago book guru). Both read original works as well as pieces by and about Lincoln. Cocktails and Honest Abe trivia stimulate the post-performance conversation, which we all know will start with: "Was Lincoln gay?"
