Ex-Deerhoof member Chris Cohen's new project with Nedelle Torrisi, Aaron Olson, and Michael Carreira, Cryptacize are Oakland psych-rockers with a retro flair and big-city swagger. Their syncopated noisenik stance is fairly laid back — so much so that the beats themselves sometimes seem to lag half a block behind the tinkerbell staccato of the forward-leaning vocals. Tonight, they drop their lounge-infused surrealist playground set with support from Casiotone for the Painfully Alone's tear-stained synth pop and Serengeti & Polyphonic's electro-rap experimentation.
