Chicago History Museum says…

There's something sublime about John Hughes' Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Perhaps it's Matthew Broderick's likable portrayal of the film's titular lad. Or maybe it's the way Bueller ignores the fourth wall, dropping charming and insightful philosophies on life like so many late slips. Some say it's the too-cool-for-school (ha!) way that, on his ninth senior ditch day, Bueller yanks his best bud, Cameron, and too-great-for-words girlfriend, Sloane, along for a panoramic jaunt across 1985 Chicago — avoiding his dogged principal, jealous sister, and unsuspecting parents along the way. Whatever it is, Ferris resonates as a funny, freewheelin' trip that masterfully conjures the timeless uncertainty and carefree days of youth. Save Ferris, indeed.
