Union Park says…

Since its inception four years ago, the Pitchfork Music Festival has become the end-all, be-all of summer music fests. Each year, fans of the website and the bands it supports flock to Chicago to cram a year's worth of indie show-going into one sweltering, beer-fueled weekend. Today, the three-day fest returns to Union Park with more than 40 artists, the always-excellent CHIRP Record Fair, DIY crafters, and food and beer vendors galore. Don't miss Friday night's Write the Night — an evening of fan-selected setlists performed by Built to Spill, the Jesus Lizard, Yo La Tengo, and Tortoise. Other best bets include performances by scene stalwarts the Flaming Lips, progressive hardcore punk outfit Fucked Up, debaucherous garage-punk foursome the Black Lips, and lo-fi noiseniks Wavves (fingers crossed for a non-meltdown show).
