Most bands will usually tighten their rambling passages when the time comes for a full-length close-up. Luckily, Montreal's Plants and Animals decided to keep the frayed edges and wandering impulse that made their debut EPs so stirring. The result, last year's JUNO-nominated Parc Avenue, is as inspired as it is nomadic — jumping from rustic folkie jamming to classic-rock blooze to indie-rock bombast. Check out their signature "Bye Bye Bye" — the Band-gleaned Great White North Americana that still keeps the city with lots of clouds-parting, barroom bluster.
