One of the diamonds of Denver's music scene and the rare country band on a punk-rock label, Slim Cessna's Auto Club might be the best live act you've never heard before. Fans describe their raucous shows as nearly religious experiences, though it's hard to say if we're dancing with the Devil or communing with the Lord. Either way, you'll find the spirit of a revivalist meeting here, as if the preacher had traded his tent for the last bar in town. Although the band's roots are planted in the Western soil, pedal-steel guitar and all, the gold-toothed Slim and his crew spread their branches wide, integrating elements of gospel, punk, and dark cabaret.
