The early buzz surrounding intercontinental duo Bass Science references an array of electronica offshoots, including dubstep, glitch hop, IDM, and techno bass. But the genre confusion makes sense considering the outfit's intelligent hybrid sound. And it might just explain their burgeoning success: electronic music critics of every persuasion can find something to love. From heart-stopping bass and glitch-heavy beats to jerky, percussive syncopations and shimmering echoes of dub delay, Tokyo-based MattB and LA-based Steve Nalepa (a former Flavorpill contributor) concoct music that's hard to define, but easy to love (and dance to). After a successful performance at England's Glade Festival, Bass Science hits up Kinetic Playground for a rare Chicago gig. Nalepa helps kicks things off with a solo set of experimental, ambient glitch dub.
