Delilah's says…

July marks the 110th anniversary of Ernest Hemingway's birth, and all month long, Delilah's celebrates with Sunday screenings of classic films tied to the famed literary expat. True, Howard Hawks' To Have and Have Not is even less faithful to its source material than, say, Kubrick was to King. But when you have Bogie and Bacall's chemistry (which famously took spark off-screen, as well) playing out against wartime intrigue in Martinique, why feel guilty about Papa's original vision? Indelible moments abound, but the smoldering "whistle" sequence remains one of Golden Age Hollywood's sultriest.
