In 2002, Josh Ritter's out-of-nowhere success seemed too blessed even for a storybook. That year's Golden Age of Radio netted the fledgling Idaho folk-rocker an opening slot with the Frames, a Top 40 single in Ireland, and a handful of (slightly hyperbolic by nature) "New Dylan" hosannas. But the sensation was mostly deserved — Golden Age remains one of the finest roots-rock albums of the decade. Since then, Ritter has incorporated AM pop, Beach Boys orchestral shine, and Springsteenian grandeur, while teasing up his folkie earnestness with more elliptical lyricism. Ritter performs tonight with a full band and a locally plucked horn section.
