Bob Mould caused some shock and (among smaller minds) horror when he went all vocoder-and-sequencer with his solo work back in 2002. The monthly Blowoff DJ gig he unveiled around the same time with Richard Morel (and later took on the road) only further baffled the post-grungies who cried, "Judas!" But those waves have long since settled and it's clear that "out-and-proud party-starter" suits Mould now just as well as "Husker Du rageaholic" did in the '80s. Mould and Morel's mix of indie-friendly dance (Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk) and progressive house is sharp enough to get even the most fervent Sugar booster out frolicking with the bears.
