Chicago Dancing Festival
Saturday Aug 22, 2009 (7:30–9:30pm)
Jay Pritzker Pavilion

The Chicago Dancing Festival's closing program is all over the map in a high-energy, extreme-states kind of way. Ulysses Dove's Vespers and William Forsythe's The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude compress rituals normally more elaborate (churchgoing and classical ballet, respectively); ceremony is distilled into each in an absorbing wave of pure movement. The men of Les Ballets Grandiva, on the other hand, visit their high-drag treatment upon the ripe-for-parody Sousa ballet Stars and Stripes. Moderation comes courtesy of Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, previewing a new piece entitled Coltrane's Favorite Things. Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell performs Alvin Ailey's Cry, the Chicago Human Rhythm Project share the stage with Step Afrika!, and, for the bunheads, ABT soloists trot out the grand pas de deux from pirate ballet Le Corsaire.
